Juanelle Sparks Fort, 74, of Big Spring, died Monday, March 24, 2014 in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Craig Holstedt officiating. She was born February 21, 1940 in Big Spring and was a longtime resident of Big Spring. Many may remember Juanelle as being selected Miss Howard County in 1956. She was a member of the Big Spring High School Class of 1957. Juanelle married Richard W.(Dick) Fort, who preceded her in death in August of 1992. Juanelle spent 24 memorable years as a travel agent in San Angelo and Austin, from which she enjoyed world travel herself before retiring after 9/11. Juanelle returned to Big Spring that same year to be with family and friends. Survivors include two sons, Rick Fort and David Fort both of Big Spring; two granddaughters, Kristin Fort of Austin; Layne Scales and husband, Joe and one great-granddaughter; Ella Scales, all of Rochester, Minnesota. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Pearl Lindsey Sparks; a brother, Robert Allen Sparks; and a sister, Lucy Hoover.
