Joyce Jones Weaver, age 96, passed away at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on July 8, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Joyce was born to V.E. and Leta Belle Jones on December 27, 1927, in Big Spring. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1945. She married RH Weaver on August 7, 1948, while RH was in law school at UT Austin and enjoyed 62 years of marriage prior to his passing on May 16, 2011. After returning to Big Spring in 1950, she briefly worked in RH’s law practice, but with three young children she transitioned into a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed duplicate bridge and became one of Big Spring’s first Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. She received the Texas Star award from the ACBL for her commitment to bridge. She was a member of the 1930 Hyperion Club and served as its president.
She and RH traveled the world and entertained grandkids with trips to Disneyland, Yellowstone Park, Mount Rushmore and more. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mike and wife Linda of Big Spring, and Pat and wife Sydney of Odessa, and one daughter Kellye of Austin; three grandsons, Quade Weaver (Beth) of Garden City, Blake Weaver (Kim) of Alma, AR and Clayton Weaver (Megan) of Midland; three granddaughters, Christi Tucker (Tim) of Midland, Ingrid Weaver (Dana) of Pflugerville and Heather McGowen (Bryan) of Andrews; 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Jane Jones of Big Spring and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harrol Glynn Jones and Charles Ray (Chub) Jones.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Thursday July 11, 2024, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, July 12, 2024 at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.
