Josie Ann Barela Clements, 84, of Midland, Texas, went home to her Heavenly Father on June 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Josie was born on October 14, 1941, in Trinchera, Colorado, to Luis and Carmelita (Gomez) Barela. The youngest of seven children, Josie grew up in Trinchera and graduated from high school in Trinidad, Colorado, in 1959. After graduation, she attended nursing school in Colorado Springs.
Josie married the love of her life, Dennis Clements, on November 4, 1967. Together, they lived in Bethesda, Maryland, and Childress, Texas, before making Midland, Texas, their permanent home in 1972. Josie and Dennis were blessed with three children: Johnny, Billy, and Michelle.
Throughout her career, Josie worked in a variety of nursing and caregiving positions before retiring in 1998 to work alongside her sons. She devoted her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally. Of all the roles she held, none brought her greater joy than being “Grammy” to her granddaughters. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with them and rarely missed a soccer game, cheer competition, or dance recital. Her granddaughters were truly her pride and joy.
Josie was a longtime member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, where her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Carmelita Barela; her brothers, Paul Barela, Basilio “Eloy” Barela, and Joe Barela; her sisters, Beatrice Duran and Lucy Sanchez; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Clements; and her father-in-law, Bruce Clements.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dennis Clements; her sons, Johnny Clements and wife Anna, and Billy Clements and wife Johnna; her daughter, Michelle Clements Davis and husband Thomas, all of Midland; her beloved granddaughters, Madison Clements, Abigail Clements, Kaitlyn Clements, and Alysha Mayfield; her sister, Rose Marie Sanchez of Trinidad, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland.
