To Josh's wife and family. I lost my son and best friend, Capt Garrett Lawton, in Farah province on Aug 4th, 2008. He, too, was a Marine aviator with MARSOC. My heart goes out to you as one who fully understands the depth of your loss. I know there really are no words I can say to make anything any better. Our loss is ours to bear for the rest of our lives. It doesn't get "better" but we learn to live with it more each day. If you ever need someone to talk with who understands what you're feeling, please email me at cdp1956@comcast.net. May God bless and comfort you. Josh, thank you for the life you lived and so willingly gave for all of us. Semper Fi, brother warrior. You are now with the Lord until we meet.

Angela im not sure if you remember me, but my family and I met you When Capt Meadows and I returned from the 11th MEU in Aug 2006. I remember the first time that i Met Capt Meadows at HMLA 267, i was walking through the hallway (i was having a bad day) and i passed him with out greeting him and he chewed me out. From that point on Capt Meadows and i became really close. When i got assigned to the 11th MEU, i found out that i was going to be working for him (i didnt like that) but spending the 6 months with him, we bonded very well, he was a great officer, a great friend, he always look out for me, always making sure my family was ok. every day i showed him my pictures of my new born daughter. there are not enough words in the world to describe how of a good person and Marine he was. i just found out about his passing reading the Marine Times, when i saw his picture i could not believe my eyes, i just broke down in tears. i am so so sorry for your lost. you can not forget his smile that he always carried. working with him, helped me to be a better Marine. My codolence goes out to you and your family. if there is anything that i can do for you please let me know. Capt Meadows I miss you, God Bless and God speed. Semper Fi SSgt Wilkerson

Dear Angela, Jan, Erin and Family, our hearts are torn with the loss of Joshua. We as a country have lost an American Hero but you have lost a husband, a son and a brother. Our son wrote us a short e-mail from Afghanistan saying, "Captain Meadows was a part of us, one fine officer, he is really missed here." Our son went on to write, "I think of Sherman, in a speech after the civil war where he said, 'There is many a boy here today who looks on war as all glory, but boys, it is all hell.' " Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of unspeakable pain and loss. Our family prays that the peace of God that passes all understanding will be upon you, Joshua's friends and his brother Marines who miss him dearly. Semper Fidelis The Dougherty Family

Josh and I trained together at The Basic School (TBS). Josh and I were in the same platoon. I remember him very well. He stood out above all Lieutenants in our platoon. He and I often shared our experiences from Texas Tech and Texas. While I was stationed in 29 Palms, he called to check up on how I was doing. Josh is a motivator. Josh is truly an American hero and his life will always be remembered by the Marine Corps. It is people like Josh that make this country great. God bless your family and friends. To Jan, my very first teacher, and Erin, one of my very first friends: As some of the people that I've know longest in my life, my heart is broken for y'all during this time. Your family is part of so many of my beloved memories of my childhood, and Josh will always hold a special place in my heart for the years shared in school, Scouts, and sports. I will always consider Josh one of the most unique and special people I've had the pleasure of knowing, and I will mourn the fact that I had not seen Josh in several years and been able to catch up on our adult lives. I am proud to call him a lifelong friend, and even more proud that he gave his life protecting this country and the way of life that I and my family hold most dear. God bless you two during this time, and rejoice for the reunion of father and son with our Heavenly Father. All the love from my family to yours, Jason Martin

I am so sorry for your loss. The military family is a close one and we all feel that stab of pain when we learn of one our own who has fallen. While I did not know your son, I can only imagine the type of guy he was, as my own son said when I asked him, "why now and why the Marines?" His answer to me was, "they are the best and someone has to do it". Josh was the best that you gave.

It saddens my family to see another hero lost to this war, but to his mother, wife and family we want to thank you for standing by Capt. Meadows as he served his country and fought for the million Americans he will never know! I've lost both my brothers and not a day goes by that I don't think about them, remembering the times when we were kids and didn't have to worry about day to day responsibilities is what has helped me over the years! I know as a mother and wife the days will go by slow, with lots of tears shed and lots of wonderful memories! To your unborn child, in my heart I feel he already knows his dad, and will make you proud of him as well! God Bless your family!

First with heartbreak because I have a son who is 18, in special forces, in Pendleton, ready to leave for Afganastan. I wanted to pretend I didn't see this. I read your story, what a wonderful young man you were, and how you became into US Marnie, a husband, and I am sure already a loving father to your unborn child. I finished your story and all i could think is I am proud to be an An american/a mother of a Marine. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Semper Fi

I respect and appreciate this generation of military professional. They are not called upon by a Government, but by a calling of conscience to defend their countrymen and those ideals we as a people hold dear. They are an all volunteer force, leaving the safety of home for the unknown on foreign soil. They seek not medals, fame or glory. They just go and do their duty to protect us all. By any other name...Patriot, Marine, comrade and brother! You shall not be forgotten. My deepest condolences to the family of Captain Meadows, especially to his wife and unborn child.

I read Josh's obituary in the Lubbock newspaper. I didn't know Josh or his family....but I graduated from Round Rock High School in '97 and knew people from Elgin...so we might have crossed paths a few times...who knows. Either way...I am thankful to Josh for serving our country. I pray that God blesses the family (immediate, extended, and Marine family) with peace and pours out love and comfort over you all during this time of mourning.

Angela, my heart goes out to you and your families, and all who are close to you. I will remember Josh as a true gentleman, and American hero. So many people love him and will miss him. May god keep you strong and at peace.

I did not know Josh. I have knowledge of the Angela's family through work I have done in the oil and gas industry. I heard about this great loss from others. My heart is broken over this and I want you to know, Angela, how sad I am for your inestimable loss. There are no human words to take away the pain and the loss. The only solace that we can ever have in a situation like this is in knowing Josh's great love for Jesus and the fact that he is with Him at this very moment for all eternity. You will be with him again. We will pray for the birth of your child and will ask God to give you, in His time, a joyful heart and a home full of love and laughter as you raise this blessed child. You have given more to this country than will ever be known or even appreciated.

I did not know Josh personally, but am a relative of the Grahams of Elgin, TX. I was told this tragic story through Gayle Graham and my prayers go out to you and your family. What a heroic son you raised and you have something to be proud of. His name will live on and I hope his child grows up to be a replica of his father and the fine man he was. Prayers will continue for you and your family in this time of need and I hope in the days ahead your pain will lesson a little..Thanks for allowing your son to serve our country and give the ultimate sacrifice.. He was such a delight. We remember him fondly; with respect and admiration. When he was in Elgin on leave he and Charlie Luton were visiting at the Crazy Horse and we bought them dinner and told Josh "thank you for your service and we just wanted to buy you dinner." He was so sweet, he gave us each hug and said thank you, and I remember the both of you too. God bless him, his family, and all who are left to mourn his passing, he will never be forgotten.
