Joan Davis, 98 of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am, Monday, April 17, 2023 at St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church in Midland, Texas with inurnment to follow in St. Nicholas’ Columbarium. Services will be conducted by Mother Amy Haynie, Rector.
Josephine Annell (Joan) Sadler Davis was born March 7, 1925 in Anson, Texas, the fourth of five children born to Robert Alexander Sadler and Jewel Florence Fogleman Sadler. The family lived in Anson and Stamford, TX before moving to Odessa, TX in 1937.
Joan was a 1942 honor graduate of Odessa High School where she was on the tennis and debate teams, a member of the National Honor Society, secretary of the Student Council, and a member of the 1941 Honor Tour.
She married Billy Glen Renchler Davis in January, 1943; they later divorced. For several years Joan worked in the business offices of Odessa High School, Ector County Independent School District and Sul Ross University, Alpine, TX, before moving to Midland in 1953. She was employed by Kelly Girl and the First Presbyterian Church before becoming parish secretary and later business manager of St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church in August, 1960. She retired in 1993.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert A. Sadler, Jr., James Donovan Sadler, Richard Earl Sadler, son, B. Glen Davis, Jr. of Odessa, TX , and sister Elizabeth S. Woodlock.
She is survived by her children Martha Jo Davis, of Midland, TX and Don Davis of Odessa, TX, extra son Tim Russell of Odessa, TX, and sister-in-law Mrs. Charmayne Sadler Parks of Hobbs, NM, also nephew Robert A. Sadler, III (Nancy), nieces Betsy S. Bayer, Betty W. Hayley (Dwight), Jean W. Kees, Chase S. Casey (Mike), Rhonda Sadler, and several great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Manor Park and Hospice of Midland for all of their help.
In lieu of flowers it is suggested that memorials be made to St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church, 4000 W. Loop 250N, Midland, TX 79707 or Hospice of Midland.
