October 29, 2023 the world lost a beautiful soul. Our family regretfully announces that Joseph Charles Kozlik went to be with his Lord and Savior. He passed away at home, peacefully with his daughter by his side in Midland, Texas. Joseph was a man of God, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Joseph was born on March 9, 1949 in Racine, Wisconsin to Joseph and Doris Kozlik.
Growing up in Racine, Joe’s childhood was filled with love and fun. He enjoyed camping trips to Devil’s Lake with his parents and siblings. He had a particularly strong bond with his best friend Bob Zitka who eventually married one of Joe’s sisters, Kathy.
Joe served in the United States Marine Corps. He went to Vietnam, fortunate not to see combat but delivering much needed supplies to his fellow Marines. Upon arriving home from the war he reunited with the love of his life, Susann Grabowski. On June 12, 1971, Joe and Su were married and began their family. Eventually the couple moved to Midland, Texas where they would complete their family and live out the rest of their days together.
Becoming an accomplished salesman, Joe made Territorial Sales Representative of the Year in 1981 for outstanding new business performance. This would lead to his career of over 30 years at A-1 Sign Engravers, Inc. Evidence of Joe’s work can be seen in the oilfields of West Texas in the abundance of signs he sold to a multitude of oil companies through the decades. He was respected and will be missed by his numerous clients.
Joe spent many years perfecting his skills as a guitarist. The sounds of him strumming and plucking would often be heard throughout his home. For many years on Friday nights, Joe would go to a “Jam Session” with his best friend Junior and other friends along the way. Music was one of his biggest passions.
Joe’s devotion to the Lord was unmatched. He inspired many throughout his life to look more to the Lord for love, guidance and hope. Confiding in Joe would often lead to the perfect scripture to lift up your spirits when needed. Daily he would study his Bible or watch Shephard’s Chapel, one of his favorite shows.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Thomas Kozlik and Doris Mae Kozlik, brother Ricky Kozlik, his wife Susann Kozlik and daughter Karriann Lynde. He is survived by his sisters Kathy Zitka and husband Bob, Karen DeGroot and husband Jim, Tania Armandez, daughter Kelly Jo Kozlik Smith, grandsons Jesse, Joseph, Jeffery and Jordyn, his son-in-law Trevor Lynde, granddaughters Morgan Lynde, Nicole Humphery and husband Tyson, great-grandchildren Stella and Isaac, grandsons Dylan Lynde and Levi Lynde.
