Joseph Toman, 62, of Big Spring, died of natural causes on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Chaplain Scott Willis, officiating.He was born on June 15, 1948, in Ashland, Wisconsin and married the love of his life Lynn Marie Bradle on September 9, 1980 in Washburn, WI.Joe is a valiant Marine who served in the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals. He loved to play the bass guitar and write songs. He was a very tender man who never knew a stranger and will forever be remembered for his generosity and his wisdom. Many who suffered with addiction owe their life to Joe's ability to relate to them and his encouragement to them to remain in treatment.He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Evelyn Toman of Ashland, WI; his wife, Lynn Marie Toman of Big Spring; three children and their spouses, Steven and Jen Pratt of Vancouver, Canada, Jerry and Megan Pratt of Pensacola, Florida and Betsy and Jimmy Edwards of Big Spring; eight grandchildren, Joe, Katie, Sean, Annie, Chris, Ben, James, and Dylan; two brothers, Clay Toman and Randy Toman; and one sister, Gina Alexander. He will be sorely missed by his best friend Pa Kettle.He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary "Mimi" Schreiner.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring. Joe, I think about you constantly since you've been gone. I miss you intensely. There is nothing more I want than to go over to your house and talk with you about all the wild things we would talk about, and give you a big hug. It was all so sudden and quick, and I wish you were here for me to take care of you still. I love you Joe, You are the best man that I ever knew. It hurts my heart to know that I have to wait to see you again, but I will. And i'll do my best to talk care of your little girl. So now that you're up there with Clem, aluicious, and countless others, I rejoice for you. Down here, it's hard to contend with the huge void we have that was your love. I love you Joe, so very much. Dear Family of Joey Words can't express how I feel. I often think about the great times we had in school at Benoit and Ondossagon. We parted our ways and seldom got the chance to see one another. i will miss you alot joe you were a great man to know. what happen over in nam should not have to happen to any man. i hope your patience with me cause i dont plan on visiting you any time soon, but when i do we will put the band back together again and rock the dead til there alive.

Joe and I went to high school together. Although I haven't seen him in years, I remember him as a kind, gentle and compassionate man. My thoughts and prayers are with you. "He lived, he laughed, he loved, and he left. And the world will never be the same"

Joe and Lynn were like second parents to my son Patrick McAllan when he and son Jerry were in high school. Whenever I would see Joe he always had time to talk and ask how everyone in the family was doing. When Joe and Lynn left the Ashland community ther was a big void. Joe will be sadly missed but forever remembered.

I did not know you well Joe in life but seem to understand you better now as I look back on all your kind words of love and humility. You expressed yourself simply from a big heart. 20 years and knowing you from many states away, it is now that I know you........ see you in Heaven.

Dear Brother Joe: I will deeply miss you. A part of me has died with you. You were the only one that ever thought to call me, and I will cherish our conversations we had on the telephone. Near the end, I know we truly understood each other as only two brothers could understand one another. Joe was such an inspiration to me. He gave so much of himself to others. He would have given his shirt off his back to help another. I watched him live what he believed. I'll always remember how he truly lived by example, his kindness, and his great sense of humor. Oh how he made me laugh! My condolences go out to Lynn and his family.
