Joe Ortiz, age 71, was born December 28, 1942 to Erlinda and Martin Ortiz. He passed away February 23, 2014. Funeral services will be held at Fairmont Park Church of Christ on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00pm with Don Mitchell officiating.Joe met and married Rebecca “Becky” in Mineral Wells, Texas. They have 4 children and 11 grandchildren; daughter Tonya and Ron Eckert, children Lindsey and Lauren, daughter Susanne Ortiz, children Dionne, Geoffery and Garyt, son James Ortiz and Katie, children Joseph, Kimberly and Jonathon, and son John Mark Ortiz and Tiffany, and children Jackson, Naya and Henry.Joe was a police officer in Mineral Wells, Texas and Midland, Texas. He was a court bailiff, spending the majority of those years with Judge Dean Rucker in the 318th District Court. Joe’s law enforcement career spanned 45 years. Joe was very dedicated to law enforcement and enjoyed going to work every day.Joe worked closely with the West Texas Amputee Support Group. He was called often to visit and mentor those who had lost a limb. He served as president of the Amputee Support Group and was dedicated to its mission.Faith and family were very important to Joe. His hobby was spending time with his grandchildren, playing, reading and teaching his grandchildren about prayer and faith.Joe was a member of Fairmont Park Church of Christ.Joe is survived by his wife, Becky and children, mother, Erlinda Ortiz, his sisters Nicki Presser and Dorothy Hall, brothers Tony, Bernard, Johnny, and Albert. Joe was preceded in death by his father Martin Ortiz and sister Linda Weiss.The family wishes to express appreciation to the many doctors, nurses and caregivers who have provided care to Joe throughout the years.
