July 5, 1941 – November 15, 2021
Jose (Joe) M. Salazar, 80 of Midland, TX, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021. Joe was born on July 5, 1941, in Sanderson, TX to Juan and Angelina Salazar. He grew up in Sanderson, Texas and later years moved to Monahans Texas where he graduated high school. Joe joined the US Marine Corps and served his country in Vietnam where he was Honorably Discharged. After the war, he came home and began his residence in Midland, TX. Mr. Salazar started working for Ft Worth Pipe, then worked for Dominos for a while until he got a job at MISD as a groundskeeper. Joe loved being outside and being able to see the result of his hard work and accomplishments. He was so proud of his work, he would often point out the school yards, football, and soccer fields he took care of at the time of his employment with MISD where he retired in July of 2006. During his retirement years, Joe would often be found at the Duck Pond in Midland Texas during lunch where we would spend the time eating lunch and talking about old times. He would often tell stories about his childhood, his brothers and sisters, the different jobs he held and how he thought his retirement years would be so different. This old Marine was called home on November 15th, 2021. Being a Marine, I want to believe he was called home to help guard the Pearly Gates with all his Marine Brothers in Arms.
Jose Salazar is survived by four siblings: his sisters: Guadalupe Hagelgans and Ester Garza along with two brothers, Juan Salazar and Martin Salazar, also survived by his niece Tammy Hagelgans Montalvo, his caregiver for the latter years of his life, good friend Michael Livingston along with his with many nieces and nephews. Joe is also survived by his very special furbabies, Evie and Betty who brought an abundance of joy during his life.
Joe Salazar is preceded in death by his parents, Angelina and Juan, his brothers Benigno Salazar, Raymundo Salazar, Antonio Salazar, Roberto Salazar, Arturo Salazar, and sister Maria MacKintosh.
