Johnny W. Britton, 80, of Midland, formerly of Stanton, died on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Belvue Church of Christ with Rick Laing and Mike Vestal, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. He was born on June 14, 1922 in Five Points, Alabama and married Fern Oden on June 22, 1945 in Ackerly, Texas. Mr. Britton had served in the United States Army in the 2nd Armored Division during World War II from 1942 to 1945. After the war they came to Martin County and farmed. Johnny and Fern served as house parents for 10 years at Portales Christian Children's Home in Portales, New Mexico and Hillview Acres Christian Childrens Home in Chino, California. They returned to Martin County and he worked for the Martin County Road and Bridge Department, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Westside Church Of Christ in Midland. He was a charter member and had served as an Elder at Belvue Church Of Christ in Stanton. Survivors include his wife, Fern Britton of Midland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Debbie Britton of Midland and Keith and Christine Williamson of Austin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Ron Riley of Earth, Susan and Randy Warrick of White City, Oregon, and Rachel Dominguez and Rick of Denison; 16 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Johnny W. Britton, eight brothers and two sisters. The family suggests memorials made to In Search of The Lord's Way, P.O. Box 371, Edmond, Oklahoma 73083 or Portales Christian Chidren's Home, HC 69 Box 48, 1356 New Mexico 236, Portales, New Mexico 88130-9411.
