Johnny Mac Hodges, left us to be with our Lord and Savior on May 21st, at the age of 67, surrounded by his family.
Johnny was born on August 3, 1954 to Jack and Melba Hodges, of Midland. In 1974, Johnny married his high school sweetheart, Carla Friday Hodges.
As a young boy, Johnny learned to work with his hands by watching and working alongside his father, who was a carpenter turned building contractor, and Johnny’s love for woodwork lasted his lifetime. Johnny was a self-employed building contractor for almost 50 years. He enjoyed his work and was brilliant at what he did. He could build or remodel anything imaginable, but his favorite thing to build was custom cabinets. When he wasn’t working, Johnny enjoyed camping, tinkering in his workshop, spending time with his family, or just sitting outside with his dog enjoying the weather. Johnny never met a stranger. He had a way of drawing anyone in with his quick wit and humor, and loved to make people laugh. Johnny was a family man and took pride in his children, and even more-so in his grandchildren, who lovingly called him, “Hopps.” If you were to ask any of his grandkids, they would argue that Hopps really did build and then hang the moon, because in their eyes, there is nothing he couldn’t do.
Those left to cherish Johnny’s love and memories are his wife, Carla Hodges; his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Daniel Fife; his daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Aaron Stephens all of Midland; his sister and brother-in-law, Melinda and Michael Murphy, of Gardendale; his aunt Helen Biddy, of Avinger, Texas; his grandchildren Jasper Hodges, Nolan and Peyton Fife, and Chris, Macy, and Andy Stephens, all of Midland; along with numerous extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Brandon Hodges, and his parents Jack and Melba Hodges.
Pallbearers will be: Daniel Fife, Aaron Stephens, J.B. Clark, Blaine Hale, Tad Legendre, and Shay Coleman, all of Midland. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jasper Hodges, and Chris Stephens, of Midland.
