John William "Bill" Hughes, Jr., 43, of Garden City, died on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 23, 2009 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Lawrence with Father Francis Njoku, officiating. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday at the church. Bill was born on May 4, 1965, in Brady to John and Carolyn (Mangum) Hughes. Before graduating high school, the family moved to Midland and he graduated from Midland High School. He then attended Midland College. Bill was very involved in his community. He was a member of the Garden City Bearkat Booster Club, 4-H Club, Lions Club and also served on Glasscock County Volunteer Fire Department. He worked in oilfield equipment sales for Tommy White Supply Company. Survivors include his three daughters, Kallie, Taylor, and Megan Hughes all of Garden City; his parents, John and Carolyn Hughes of Garden City; two brothers & sisters-in-law, Mike Hughes and his wife Pam of Midland, and Bob Hughes and his wife Cindy of Plano; a niece, Brecklyn Hughes of Austin; and three nephews, Taylor Hughes and his wife Elizabeth, Travis and Trevor Hughes all of Plano. Memorial donations are suggested to go to the Glassock 4-H, P.O. Box 299, Garden City, TX 79739. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring. Billy was a great friend to Tom and I in high school in Midland. We shared many happy times and we have great memories. We only recently heard of his passing and are saddened to hear he was lost so young. We always remember Billy as a fine friend and companion.

We just heard of Bill's pasing and wanted to let you know that he was thought of often. I know that this is affermation that we should not let our contact with friends be put off. Bill and Monica Cotter

Dear Mr.& Mrs. Hughes, Mike & Pam, Bob & Cindy, We just wanted you to know that the Keese family in Brady is thinking of you and loves you all very much. It was a surprise to see Billy's picture in the paper today. We had no idea he was in the hospital. Growing up with the Hughes boys was a wonderful experience. We had good times playing football games in your front yard and wild west gun fights all over the neighborhood. We pray that God sheds his peace, grace, and love on you and your family.
