John Wade Moody Jr., 82, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, in a nursing home in Big Spring, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, in the Nalley-Pickle-Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. John Marshall, deacon of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, officiating and Deacon Connie Fowler, assisting. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas.John was born to John Wade and Myra Lyndell Bruner Moody September 9, 1931, in Jefferson, Texas. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University in 1954. He served in the United States Army from August 1954 to April 1956 in Honolulu, Hawaii.He was a journalist for 50 years, employed at various newspapers in North and East Texas including the Marshall News Messenger in Marshall, Texas, a television station in Shreveport, La., and the Mount Pleasant Daily Tribune in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. He was known to his friends for his sense of humor, his love of storytelling, his love of chili and his love of making puns.He is survived by his niece, Lyndel Moody of Big Spring; nephews, John Moody and David Moody, both of Big Spring; his sister-in-law, Katherine Moody of Big Spring, his dear friends including Debra Redfearn, Donna Jeter, Kathy and Zeke Zwernemann, John Whitten, and in the hundreds of stories he wrote about events, places and interesting personalities during his years of service as a community journalist.He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Wade and Myra Lyndell Moody and his brother, Robert Moody.In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to St. Mary's Episcopal Church St. Andrews Day Fund, P.O.
