John Tate Street passed away on March 2, 2013 in Midland, Texas. He was 81. He was born on July 20, 1931 in Lubbock, Texas to John Tate Street and Lula Maude Whisenant Street. John celebrates new life in heaven because he knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior.John grew up in Littlefield, TX and graduated from Littlefield High School. After high school, he attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. While in Abilene, John met Dorothy Holt and they were married at Travis Avenue Baptist Church, Ft. Worth, TX on July 1, 1955. John and Dorothy were married for over 57 years. With Dorothy by his side, John pastored churches in Arizona (6 years), Munday, TX (4 years), Phillips, TX (5 years), and Dimmitt, TX (12 years). During his career as a pastor, John served on the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and numerous other associational committees. He led mission endeavors in India, South Korea, Brazil, El Salvador, as well as many other local projects. John also worked as a capital fundraiser for Cargill Associates in Ft. Worth, TX. After retirement, John and Dorothy moved to Midland, TX. They have been active members of the First Baptist Church of Midland, where John taught a class for couples.John was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.John is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Midland, 3 daughters, Becky Holmes and husband John of Midland, Kay Merritt and husband Mark of Midland, and Sharla Blanton and husband Mike of Spearman, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren Lori Blong and husband Jared, Leslie Vanderland and husband Ryan, Daniel Holmes and fianc Jerica Escovedo, Matthew Holmes and wife Kimber, Aaron Blanton, and Emily Blanton, and great-grandchildren Merritt and Caleb Blong and Levi and Jakob Vanderland.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 4, 2013 from 6:00-7:00PM. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 10:00AM with Dr. Randel Everett officiating, assisted by Rev. David Johnson both of First Baptist Church, Midland. Interment will be in Littlefield, TX. Johns family wishes to thank many friends who have blessed their lives.
