John Nelson Ramey, 78, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at his residence. Family and friends are invited to attend a vigil services at 7:00 PM on Tuesday April 3, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Richard Reagan, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.He was born on January 9, 1929, in Linden, Tennesee to John Leslie Ramey and Gladys Vivian Whitwell Ramey. He married Patricia Lucile Smith on November 20, 1954 in Washington D.C.He served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years and retired as Chief Master Sergeant. He served in both the Korean War and Vietnam conflict as well as several other hotspots around the world. He served in duty stations which included Washington DC, Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas, France and the Panama Canal Zone. He was stationed in Big Spring in 1969 and after various other assignments, retired in Big Spring in 1980. He worked for the City of Big Spring for 13 years as a maintenance supervisor at the McMahon Wrinkle Air Park. He was a member of the VFW Lodge #8930 and American Legion Post #586 in Big Spring. He was a Communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.Survivors include his wife, Pat Ramey of Big Spring; son, Bill Ramey of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, daughter Pam Ramey of Abilene, daughter & son-in-law, Peggy and Rodney Faulkner of Berlin Center, Ohio, and son Michael Ramey of Plano Texas; brother & sister-in-law, Billy Whit and Sue Ramey of Linden Tennessee, sister & brother-in-law, Mildred & Philip Hutson of Linden Tennessee; grandchildren Kim Ramey, Cody Pennington and Frankie Pennington Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorials may be sent to Home Hospice, 111 East 7th Street, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
