Turner, John Monroe, 79, of Big Spring, died on Monday, June 12, 2000, in a local hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, June 15, 2000, at the East Fourth Street Baptist Church with Rev. Dudley Mullins, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:00 PM Thursday at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Brownwood with Rev. Dudley Mullins, officiating and Rev. S. L. Yielding, retired Baptist minister form Lake Brownwood, assisting. John was born on May 8, 1921 in Thackerville, Oklahoma to Marvin and Viola Turner. His family moved to Mitchell County in 1933. He served in the United State Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his return home, he was employed by the Coltex Refinery until its closure. He was transferred to Cosden Oil and Chemical in Big Spring, Texas in 1960. He retired from Fina in 1982 after a 37 year tenure. John married Bertha Lee,
