John Jackson Bentley, 90, of Carrollton and fomerly of Stanton, died on Saturday, February 16, 2008, in Forney. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Stanton with Van Pendergrass, minister of Downtown Church of Christ in Stanton officiating. Jack Bentley was born on March 28, 1917, in Benjamin, Texas and married Marjorie Blackerby on May 14, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Bentley was a longtime member of the Webb Chapel Church of Christ and served as an Elder at the Church of Christ in Farmers Branch. During World War II, he served in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant and was awarded several medals, including two Purple Hearts. In 1948, he started a furniture and appliance store, Bentley's of Stanton. Mr. Bentley was also involved in real estate for over 60 years, including 35 years dedicated to Civil Service with HUD and F.D.I.C. He retired at the age of 87 in 2005. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Bentley of Carrollton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judith Diane and David Wright of Marietta, Georgia, Jane Ellen and Garland Bowers of Lubbock, and Elizabeth Jan and Bobby Childress of Ft. Worth; two sons and daughters-in-law, John David and Ricka Bentley of Midland and Thomas Emmett and Belinda Bentley of Forney; one sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and John Hildebrand of Flagstaff, Arizona. Pappaw will be missed by 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Coats Bentley and his sister, Patricia Moffett.
