John Henry Fish, MD, 93, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, January 17, 2010, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Ken McIntosh, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 7 PM to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.He was born on September 13, 1916, in Foard County, Texas and married Anna Marie Hieserman on July 5, 1941 in Iowa Park, Texas.Dr. Fish received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry from Texas Tech Universty in 1938 and his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1942. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After his military service, he was the first resident in the Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology department at Parkland Hospital in Dallas in 1948. He received his American Board of Ophthalmology in 1955, his Fellow in Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology in 1957 and served as a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology for Texas Tech University from 1976 to 1987. Dr. Fish had his own practice in Big Spring, retiring on January 1, 1987. He was a member of First Christian Church.Survivors include his wife, Anna Marie Fish of Big Spring; four sons & daughters-in-law, Dr. John R. and Donna Fish of Big Spring, Dr. Gary Edd and Nancy Fish of Dallas, Dr. Kent and Anne Fish of San Angelo and Dr. Barry and Marty Fish of Lake Jackson; 10 grandchildren, Dianna Fish and Dr. Larry Fish and wife, Silpi all of Big Spring, Nathan Fish and wife, Lily of Houston, Joel Fish of Dallas, Lauren Fish, Drew Fish and Hannah Fish all of San Angelo, and Megan Fish, Sara Fish and Katie Fish all of Lake Jackson; four great grandchildren, Ryan Fish, Brianna Welch and Marissa Welch all of Big Spring and Stella Jane Fish of Houston; one sister, Winnie D. Garth of Dallas; a sister-in-law, Edna Fish of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Berny Fish and Harold Fish; and one sister, Kate Fish.The family suggests memorials to the Building Maintenance Fund at First Christian Church, 911 Goliad, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
