John Floyd Griffin, 90, of Stanton, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, August 25, 2012, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 27, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Stanton with Rev. David Harp, officiating. Private interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the funeral home.John Floyd Griffin was born on May 1, 1922 in Lubbock County. He was the son of Charles and Erin Griffin. John was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Griffin, and his granddaughter, Bethany Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Margie Griffin of Stanton.He is also survived by his two daughters, Deborah Baker and husband, Roger, and Pam Shaw; his son, Nathan Griffin and wife, Marian, all of Carrollton; his two stepsons, Dennis Ireton and wife, Judy, and Danny Ireton and wife, Ronda, all of Stanton; his grandchildren Patrick Baker, Marie Baker, Rachel Griffin, Philip Griffin, Matthew Griffin, Jessica Germany, Trey Shaw, Toria Kuntz and husband Don, Brandon Ireton, Matthew Ireton and wife, Claire, Jonathan Ireton, Casey Waggoner and husband, Mike, and A. J. Ireton; his great grandchildren Trent Baker, Abigail Baker, Braden Waggoner, Tyler Waggoner, Harilyn Ireton, Jack Ireton, Dylan Kuntz, Degan Kuntz, and Harlow Kuntz; and his sister Enid Allen.John served in the United States Navy in World War II. He was wounded at the Battle of Iwo Jima and was awarded a Purple Heart. He returned to Lubbock County where he farmed until he retired in 1986.When he returned to Lubbock County, he met and married Lillian Surovik, his wife of 35 years. After her death in 1984, he met and married Margie Ireton in 1987 and they were married until his death.His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. John enjoyed traveling, dancing and painting. He was a loyal fan of the Lady Raiders basketball team and enjoyed all sports.John's faith in Christ was the hallmark of his life."I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race.
