This Easter Sunday we lost another member of the greatest generation our loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather John Finis Millwee just shy of his ninetieth birthday. He was born June 23, 1928 in Pioneer, Texas to Samuel Summit and Nettie Mae (Waterson) Millwee. As a child he lived in numerous West Texas towns and Phillips camps including Crane, Goldsmith, Odessa and graduated high school in Hobbs, New Mexico. John served his country proudly as a veteran of the United States Army and served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division in Japan during World War II earning Japan World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Glider Badge and Parachutist Badge. After the war he returned home and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Geology beginning a long legacy of Red Raiders “Wreck ‘em Tech”. He met the love of his life Jo Ann Lemaster and married her in her parent’s home January 6, 1953 in Odessa, Texas. The couple recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. Their union produced two daughters Lynda Millwee Krol and husband Walter John Krol and Sandra Millwee Jordan and husband Daniel Loyd Jordan. John’s legacy includes six grandchildren Stephanie Krol McCurdy and husband Michael Lewis McCurdy, Jonathan Hayden Jordan, Michael Joseph Krol, Matthew Nathaniel Jordan, Alexander John Krol and Victoria Danielle Jordan all of Midland. He also has three great grandchildren Blake Elliott McCurdy, Gunnar Michael McCurdy and Piper Olivia McCurdy. He was a 31 year member of Midland Country Club joining in 1987. John was an avid golfer always ready to play in the gangsome or in a tournament with all his golfing buddies. He was also a long time member of the Permian Basin Petroleum Association. After graduation from Texas Tech University he worked as a geologist for the late Mr. Fred Turner and the Turner Estate managed by Lynn Durham and Clarence Scharbauer II for a total of 25 years. In 1972, John and his wife Jo Ann formed Lyn-San Company named in honor of their daughters and also operated as a sole proprietor John F. Millwee. In 1980 they founded Millwee Oil, Inc. where he remained president for 38 years until his death April 1, 2018. John and Jo Ann have made Midland their home for the past 65 years. John was preceded in death by his mother and father his brothers Samuel Edsel Millwee, Williford Jay Millwee and his sister Ella Louise Millwee Granath. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
