John Currie 86, died Thursday, August 24, 2017 at his residence. John was born at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas February 4, 1931 to Grace Taylor and Robert W. Currie. John's grandparents were Emily and Horace Taylor and Margaret and T.S. Currie, both pioneer Howard County residents.He married Ruth Didlake, a native of Mississippi, March 20, 1952 in Lovington, New Mexico.John graduated from Texas Christian University in 1951 with a business degree and completed the School of Banking Program from the University of Wisconsin in 1957. He was employed by The State National Bank of Big Spring for more than sixty years. He was active in a number of banking organizations and was an organizing director of Texas Independent Bank in Dallas and IBAT Bond Trust in Houston. John served as President of Colorado River Municipal Water District for four years and as a director for twenty-eight years. He was active in many community organizations serving as President of the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Industrial Foundation, Downtown Inc., Quarterback Club and National Little League, while serving in various other capacities in numerous other organizations over the years.Where tax money was spent, John was never reluctant to speak up against fiscally imprudent proposals. John supported a number of conservative candidates and causes over the years.John is survived by his wife, Ruth of Big Spring; four children, Carol, Bob, Henry and Tom; seven granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren and sister, Ann McComb of Austin.He was preceded by his parents and two grandsons.Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church.In lieu of flowers the family suggest a memorial be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
