John Alfred Cook died peacefully at his home in Midland surrounded by his family on May 5, 2014. He was a man who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on February 28, 1926 in Quinter, Kansas to the late John Dorsey Cook and Maude (Lucile) Bowen. John married Norma Irene Russell on August 31, 1947 in Scott City, Kansas.John is survived by his wife, Norma Cook and his four grown children, Gloria Jean Lesher; John Emerson Cook and his wife Jan Cook; Cheryl Lee Brown and her husband Chris Brown; and Dianne Marie Cook; as well as eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to these survivors, John is survived by a brother, Walter Cook and his wife LaVerne Cook.Honorably discharged from the United States Navy, John learned the plaster and stucco trade from his father and the carpentry craft from his uncle. He followed the availability of construction work throughout his lifetime. John built many homes in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas and had a reputation as a fine craftsman. He came to Midland in 1979. John received his private pilot’s license in 1973 and belonged to the Midland West Texas Flyers, and his greatest joy was flying his Cessna 120, which he rebuilt from two salvaged airplanes. During his retirement, John crafted wooden toys, all of which were given away as gifts or donated.Services are pending for a celebration of John's life and will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Midland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a church of one’s choice.,
