John A. Van AukenJohn A. Van Auken, 87, of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Midland Memorial Hospital. There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland.He was born on November 13, 1922, in Ludloville, New York to Albert and Helen Luther Van Auken. He married Jeanette High on March 12, 1947 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She preceded him on June 23, 2007 after 60 years of marriage. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. He retired from Union Oil Company after 35 years as a Geophysicist. He was very involved in the Midland Arts Association and was a past president. He loved fly-fishing and playing golf. He was an artist and a sculptor. He loved gardening and grew the best tomatoes.He is survived by his daughter, Janice Van Auken-Adams & her husband, Jeff of Leander; his grandson, Christopher Magers & his wife, Nikki of Washington D.C.; his granddaughter, Stephanie Pilisko & her husband, Nicholas of Round Rock; his granddaughter, Christina Simpson & her husband, Christopher of Leander; his grandson, Robert Adams; and his great grandson, Carson Simpson.He was preceded by his wife, Jeanette Van Auken, his parents and 2 sisters.Funeral arrangements are under the care of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Hello my dear old friend. So sorry to hear of your loss. I still have a cross necklace your Dad made for me when we were in high school. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this sad time.

I send Ruth and my sincere condolences to the family of John, He and I were coworkers in Pure Oil and Union Oil in Midland for several years. I once took a lost wax casting course from him. I still have the casting on my desk. He was a worthy friend. He remains in my memory for the many aspects of our lives that entertwinded. We will miss his presence in our lives. Jerry

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to you. Although we haven't met, all of us have experienced the loss of a loved one. I recently lost my mother and know the pain of a broken heart. Our Heavenly Father feels our pain. Psalms 34:18 assures us that He is near to those broken at heart. He does, however, hold out a promise that in the very near future He will wipe out all tears of sorrow and pain from our eyes and death will be no more. (Revelation 21:3-5) He also promises to remember all those in the memorial tombs (graves) and restore them to life. (John 5:28,29) Until those words are fulfilled, may you find much peace and comfort in God and in His promises found in the Holy Scriptures.
