On Sunday, March 10th, 2024, surrounded by his adoring family in his Midland, Texas home, Joe Saiz was called to his final and heavenly home. Born September 25, 1950, to Lorenza and Florencio Saiz in Encino, New Mexico, Joe’s path was one filled with resilience and strength through adversity with love and laughter woven throughout.
Joe’s childhood in Portales, New Mexico, was marked by a spirit of adventure and a heart full of curiosity. His youth was a whirlwind of antics and adventures, shared with a circle of lifelong friends and family who shared his spirit of wonder.
As adulthood beckoned, Joe answered the call of duty and served his country with honor in the Army, stationed in both Germany and Vietnam. It was upon his return home that he met the love of his life, Barbara. Their whirlwind romance culminated in marriage on December 29, 1972, marking the beginning of an extraordinary life together.
Joe and Barbara enjoyed years traveling the country, enjoying the company of good friends, and spending quality time alone together before starting a family. Their home was soon filled with the laughter and joy of their children Melanie, Ernesto, and Valerie, who added to the focus and fulfillment of their lives.
Joe and Barbara created precious memories that would last a lifetime. In 1983, they settled in Midland, Texas, where Joe dedicated 28 years of his life to serving the community at Midland Memorial Hospital before joining his beloved Barbara in a well-deserved life of retirement-a return to their beloved adventures together.
Joe was a man of few words, but those words often carried the weight of wisdom and love. His quick wit and genuine humility endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether he was on a fishing trip with friends, sharing stories with his grandchildren, or simply enjoying a quiet moment at home with Barbara, Joe’s presence touched the hearts of those around him.
In December 2023, on their 51st wedding anniversary, Joe received news that would test his strength and resilience like never before. Faced with a battle against cancer, Joe approached the challenge with the same courage and determination that defined his entire life. Throughout his journey, he remained steadfast in his love for Barbara and his devotion to his family, imparting invaluable words of wisdom that will be remembered for years to come.
Joe’s legacy lives on through the family he held dear: his devoted wife of 51 years, his loving children Melanie, Ernesto, and Valerie, his cherished grandchildren Jon, Hailey, Hannah, Holland, Kylie, Tyler, Andres, and great-grandchild Eliot, and his beloved sister Martha Manzanares.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Centers for Children & Families or Hospice of Midland, honoring Joe’s commitment to caring for others until his very last breath.
He is preceded in death by his father, Florencio Saiz; his mother, Lorenza Saiz; and his brother, Ernesto Saiz.
As we bid farewell to Joe, let us remember him not with tears, but with laughter and love, celebrating a life well-lived on earth and a life everlasting in his new home, where he awaits the arrival of his family and friends. Rest easy, Joe.
