Joe Frank Horton, 69, of Big Spring, died on Friday, March 2, 2001, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, March 5, 2001, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham, minister of 14th and Main Church of Christ, officiating. He will be assisted by Joe's brother-in-law, Henry Walker and by Ralph Dennis. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at Hillcrest Cemetery, McLean, Texas. He was born on April 15, 1931 in Rockdale, Texas and married Margaret D'Spain on April 22, 1956 in Austin, Texas. Joe grew up in Austin and received his Bachelor's of Science Degree and Master Degrees in Administration and Counseling from the University of Texas at Austin. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He taught History and Government and was also a Counselor for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He had been a resident of Big Spring since 1971. Joe was a member of 14th and Main Church of Christ and was active in the Prison Ministry. He was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Horton of Big Spring; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Wendy Horton of Grand Prairie and Jon and Renee Horton of Benbrook; one daughter and son-in-law, Janene and Doug Binnion of Midland; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Louise Rainer of Austin and Rosalind and Jack Ferrell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and four grandchildren, Leslye Horton, Jason Horton, Lauren Horton and Devin Horton. He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Prentice and Ruby Thelma Horton; and one brother Benjamin Prentice Horton, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Peurifoy, Max Coffee, George Weeks, Paul Hood, Ralph Dennis, Edwin Bednar, James Banks, Jason Horton and Randy Pickett. The family will receive friends from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
