Joe Flud

Joe Flud, 68, of Midland, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family after a fierce battle with cancer. Although he did not survive his fight, the eternal victory is his as he passed peacefully to rest forever with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The family will receive guests from 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Branch at Nalley-Pickle & Welch. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 10, 2021 at Crestview Baptist Church in Midland and will be livestreamed. Graveside will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Joe was born on June 18, 1953 in Lamesa, Texas to George and Joella Flud. As one of seven children, his childhood days were full of laughter, love, and fun. Joe excelled at sports including football, baseball, and track and field. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1972 and after working several jobs, settled into his lifelong career at Pioneer Natural Resources. Brought on as a pumper, he worked steadily over 33 years and at the time of his medical leave was grateful to be working as a senior operations foreman. His extraordinary work ethic and dedication was evident in everything he did and can be clearly seen in the love his coworkers showed for him. In 1992, Joe met and married the love of his life, Dana. He called her his one and only, the best, and his reason why. Together they built a beautiful life together raising their kids, going on trips, attending concerts, watching tv and movies, and simply loving each other. Joe was also a loving and devoted daddy, uncle, and “Bic” to his grandson and could regularly be found working on school projects, carving pumpkins, coaching sports, riding bikes and all-around teaching, supporting, and loving his kids, grandson, nieces and nephews. Joe loved music and played guitar and loved to hear his kids sing. He often spoke of how blessed he was and proud he was of his kids, including his sons-in-law. He was forever a sports fan and loved to cheer on the Cowboys any day they played. To know Joe was to know a truly unique and beautiful person. He loved to laugh and thrived on bringing laughter and joy to others. He cared deeply and genuinely for his wife and family and would regularly refer to himself as “the luckiest man on earth.” His loss will be so deeply felt by all who knew and loved him as we strive to live with the same kindness that so personified him.

Joe’s life will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 29 years, Dana Flud of Midland; his devoted children Kay and Marcus Thomas of Broomfield, CO, Kaitlyn and Kc Peoples of Odessa and RJ Flud of Canyon; his precious grandson Josiah Peoples of Odessa; brothers Tommy and Patty Flud of Midland and Benny and Pam Flud of Odessa; sisters Sandra Buckalew of Midland, Kathy Flud and Stacy Alls of Alvarado and Kala Gillett of Midland; siblings-in-law Kaci and Scott Thissen, Donna Flud, and David Gober and countless cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe was met in heaven by his loving parents George and Joella Flud, his friend and father-in-law Clifton Gober, his big brother Sam Flud; brother-in-law Darren Gober and sweet cousins and friends.

The family would like to express their immense gratitude towards Pioneer Natural Resources for their many years of kindness, the doctors and nurses of WeCare at Pioneer, UT Southwestern in Dallas and Angels Care Hospice, and the countless friends and family that have reached out with prayers, food, calls, texts, gifts and love.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Every Life, Inc. to further their work in Kenya.
