This is truly a sad day on earth and a joyous celebration in heaven. Bro. Gilmer was in my life from the time I was a tiny girl. I remember seeing him every Sunday and Wednesday and he always had a such a sweet way with me and my sisters. He had such a warm loving spirit and a huge heart. He will be missed and my prayers go out to his family.

Betty, Mark and Mike, I am saddened for all of you at the loss of husband and father Joe. I can absolutely echo my brother John's thoughts and memories of Joe. He had an exuberance and a joy like no other person that I have known and it was infectious. He always, always gave you an uplifting word every time he saw you. My first thought upon hearing of his passing was "What a party must be going on in heaven right now!" Thinking of you all and praying that the peace that passes all understanding is being imparted to you. Pam

Dear Gilmer Family, I once was told that the measure of a man's life were two things 1. The Family that a man leaves behind and the great thoughts they will always carry 2. That it is not the fortune nor the journey, but the number of lives that are touched and we all know that Joe touched so many God Bless, my prayers and thoughts are with you. Jimmy (Lefty)

John Roberts (Johnny) left a message on April 16, 2012:
Dear Betty, Mark and Mike, I wanted to send you a note and offer my deepest condolences at the loss of Joe. Growing up in Midland offered me the great opportunity to fellowship with, and be mentored by, several really great men. I count Joe among those few. Even though Joe was friends with my father, he always had a firm, warm handshake and a heartfelt announcement of a blessing everytime he saw me. I will also remember his constant grin accompanied by that little sparkle he had in his eyes when he talked to you. I could just feel that he sincerely cared about me as he spoke, and as I have grown up, I have come to realize that this is such a rare quality in a man. Joe was the genuine article and provided a shining example to us young boys of consistently "Living the Faith". I know this comes as a huge loss as a husband and a father to the Mark and Mike, so I pray that God may richly bless the Gilmer family and give you all comfort. Johnny
