Joanne Sevey Parker, 76, of Big Spring passed away Thursday, November 25, 2022. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 30th at 11 am at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Gail Cemetery, Gail, TX. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Tuesday, November 29th at the funeral home.
Joanne was born September 2nd, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Johnnie Walter Sevey and Mildred Southard Sevey. She was raised in Charles City, Iowa, moving to Big Spring, TX as a young teen. She graduated from Big Spring High School and then began her nursing education. Joanne left nursing school to return to Big Spring and take care of her family. Her aspirations were merely set aside at this time as she worked as a medical secretary for some 20 years for Dr. Matthews. With the urging and support of Dr. Matthews, Joanne returned to nursing school; graduated, and began a career in nursing. She worked for the Big Spring State Hospital for 10 years, and also worked 20 years for Midland Memorial Hospital from which she retired as charge nurse on the pediatric floor. Joanne was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a woman of faith and a practicing Christian. She loved baseball, especially the Ranger’s, and had both coached and acted as team manager for her daughter’s softball team. She was a family centered and social individual. One indulgence she gave herself was that of being a collector of angels.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, JaNa’ Craenen and Geert; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Alex Miles and Brad; her siblings, Kay Wilson and husband David, Jacque Hendricks and husband Bo, Johnnie Sevey and wife Dee, Jan Rios and husband Roby, and Jimmie Sevey and wife Sherry; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Geert Craenen, David Wilson, Brad Miles, Brian Jones, Roby Rios, and Ross Sharp. Bo Hendricks will be an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Methodist Children’s Home – Waco, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
