Joann Kalt, 89, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. The youngest of four sisters, Jo was born on August 3, 1932 to Harry and Ethel Schwartzmiller in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
She graduated from Sesame South High School in Pittsburgh in 1950 and married her high school sweetheart Donald Kalt on July 20, 1950 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She followed him all over the United States for many years while he pursued his professional wrestling career.
Jo had many interests and talents. One of her favorites was competing in women’s quick draw competitions in the 1960’s, even winning a championship.
She was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice and loved singing hymns in church, especially during her years of faithful service at Golf Course Road Church of Christ.
She worked at various jobs while raising her four children, including head cook at Paramount Baptist in Amarillo.
Life was not always easy, but Jo managed to do everything with a smile on her face and the hope that her daily walk with Christ brought her.
Joann was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Ethel, along with her three sisters, Betty, Dorothy and Jean and son-in-law Chris Hieb.
She is survived by her son Don Kalt and wife Patty of Bradenton, Florida, son Ron and wife Carrie of Midland, daughter Linda Hieb of Midland and daughter Mary of Arlington.
Her grandchildren are: Aimee Sanders (Jonathan) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Andrew Kalt of Noblesville, Indiana, Braden Kalt, Keenan Kalt (Kalie), Jordan Kalt, Kaden Kalt and Maddie Kalt all of Midland, James Hieb (Ashley), Sarah Mayer (David) and Donnie Hieb all of Midland and Ronnie Kalt of Amarillo, and great grandchildren, Chloe Rolls, Danni Mayer, Lainey and Luke Butz, and Kamdyn and Kinley Kalt all of Midland.
A graveside service is planned for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
