Jimmy Charles Floyd

Jimmy Charles Floyd, surrounded by his loving family, went home to his Father and Savior on Monday, April 15, 2013.Jimmy was born on January 25, 1933 in Grand Saline, Texas to Lonnie Bell and Nancy Emily Floyd. He was raised in Fort Worth with his younger brother Lonnie Ellis Floyd. After graduating from Arlington Heights High School, he attended Texas Christian University on an opera scholarship. It was there that he met the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Ginger Lane Floyd.While remaining an active member of the Fort Worth Civic Opera, he chose to pursue a career outside of the fine arts, and went to work for Bethlehem Steel in 1957. In 1959 he went to work for American Manufacturing Company in Fort Worth. Later that year he moved to Midland and served as the General Manager and Director of Sales for American for the next 32 years. During this time period he was actively involved in the oil and gas business as well as founding and operating several other local businesses. In 1974 he founded Rolltex Inc. and remained productively engaged in the operations of Rolltex Bearing and Rolltex Fluid Power until the time of his death.Over the 54 years spent in Midland, Jimmy was involved in numerous civic organizations throughout the city. In his early years in Midland he was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and Midland Lions Club and the Exchange Club. He served on the Board of Directors for High Sky Childrens Ranch as well as the Alto Country Club in Ruidoso, NM. He was an active member of First Baptist Church and served in the Cairos Prison Ministry. Jimmy was honored to have been the founding member of the Soon to be Legendary Renowned Gathering of Semi-Retired Hunters and Historians. From boyhood up until the time of his death, Jimmy was an outdoor fanatic. He found no greater joy than to be outdoors hunting or fishing. He took great pride in the recognition that he had been a guest at Vermejo Park Ranch for 54 consecutive years. As an avid fly fisherman and hunter his most fulfilling moments were spent with kids, grandkids, and friends instructing, encouraging, and enjoying being in Gods creation.Without question, the legacy of Jimmy will be his absolute zeal for life. He and Ginger were blessed to have traveled the world over the course of their lives together and he treasured the experiences he shared with his friends and family throughout their travels. Whether it be at First Baptist, downtown Midland, out in the field, or on a cruise ship; very few people who ever met Jimmy Floyd or heard his laughter could ever doubt that he was a man who loved people and enjoyed life.Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and brother, and his oldest son Charles Mark Floyd. He is survived by his wife Ginger, daughter and son in law Scott and Renee Rogers and grandchildren Kevon, Haydon, and Lauren. Son and daughter in law Stephen and Susan Floyd and grandchildren Patrick and Whitney, Blake, and Morgan. Son and daughter in law Jay and Missy Floyd and grandchildren Taylor and Addison. Daughter and son in law Rev. Alan and Angela Hawkins and grandchildren Joshua, Emily, Athan, Ciaran and Ryan.The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Watkins and Dr. Berryman, and all of Jimmys friends and supporters at Allison Cancer Center and Memorial Hospital for their care and support over the past few years and our most heartfelt thanks go to Valleen Bowden and Elizabeth Escobar for their love and care of Jimmy and Ginger. We will also never be able to truly express the depth of our gratitude to the many friends who have visited, cared for, and blessed him during his illness. There will be a private family funeral service, followed by a memorial service at First Baptist Church on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to Allison Cancer Society 2304 W.
