Jimmie "Jim" L. Rose, age 60, of Ft. Davis, TX, and formerly of Midland, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Hospice Midland Inpatient Unit of Midland Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held on Friday April 1, 2005 at the Frist United Methodist Church in Ft. Davis at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Ernie Vinyard, pastor, and Reverend Bob Kelley, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Marfa, officiating. Jim was born on November 27, 1944, in Monahans, Texas to Odell and Ruth (Dorsey) Rose. He married Ellen Vie Cross on April 7, 1990 in Marfa.He was a 1963 graduate of Odessa Permian High School. Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy. He lived in Midland for many years and had worked for Union Oil of California for over 30 years. Jim was a former member of the Permian Basin Landman's Association. Astronomy was his passion. He had his own observatory, and after moving to Ft. Davis, upon his retirement, he helped others in building their own observatories. Jim had also volunteered his time at the McDonald Observatory in Ft. Davis.He is survived by his wife, Vie of Ft. Davis, his daughter Allison Rose of Midland, and his two granddaughters, Natalie and Katy. He is further survived by a brother, Richard and his wife, Jan Rose of Midland and thier daughter Lindsey Rose, and a sister, Patsy Rose of Muenster, Texas.
