Jim G. Burt, 85, of Big Spring, died on Monday, November 23, 2009, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Cotton and Rev. Joey Bacon, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.He was born on March 22, 1924, in Snyder, Texas and married Mary Frances Sheid on February 28, 1946 in Snyder, Texas.Jim attended Texas A & M until World War II started. He then served as a Tailgunner in a B-26 in the European Theater, assigned to the 387th Bomb Group, 559th Bomb Squadron. He was captured when his plan was shot down over Bastogne, Belgium on December 23, 1944, and was taken prisoner by the Germans. He remained there until the end of the war when General Patton came through and released the compound. He returned home and continued in the Air Force, having been stationed in Panama, North Carolina, Florida and back to Texas until he was medically retired from the Air Force as a Warrant Officer.He came to Big Spring and worked at Webb Air Force Base and raised his family. He was a cowboy at heart; he raised, traded and trained horses. He worked for several ranches and shared his passion for horses with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge # 1260 in San Angelo and numerous military organizations. He loved the Lord, his family, his pastor and his church.Survivors include his wife, Mary Burt of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Randy Faulkner of Waco; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Debbie Burt of Big Spring; five grandchildren, Stephanie Fryar, Callie Green and husband, Josh, Chance Wagoner, LeDawn Liles and husband, Josh and Codye Weaver and husband, Matt; two great grandsons, Boston Scott Green and Jaxson Tyler Green; a sister, Peg York of Fort Sumner, New Mexico; numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.The family suggests memorials to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, P.
