Jewell Adelle Montieth Wheeler, 82, of Sugar Land, Texas, formerly of Howard County, died on Monday, July 12, 2004, in a Sugar Land nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 16, 2004 at the College Baptist Church, Big Spring, with Rev. Ken McMeans, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to Noon Friday at the funeral home.She was born on August 9, 1921, in Coahoma, Texas.Mrs. Wheeler was a lifelong resident of Howard County before moving to the Houston area 10 years ago. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts, knitting, embroidering, and ceramics and since moving from Big Spring she enoyed crossword puzzles and jig saw puzzles.She was a member of College Baptist Church where she served as a teacher of various age groups.Jewell served in the United States Navy during World War II. She learned to fly after getting out of the service but never got her license as a pilot. She worked as a hairdresser for fifty years and was active in the American Hairdressers Association.Survivors include one son, David Wheeler of Big Spring; one daughter, Pam Vollmar of Sugar Land and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
