Jesus was born on October 3, 1974, in Odessa, TX to Jesus Alonzo Chavez, Sr. and Delma Holguin Chavez. Jesus had a life well lived. He loved big and he loved loud. Jesus always loved an adventure. As a child, he played football and baseball and as a youth, he loved team roping. He followed and pursued his passions, and this took him all over the country. Once he retired his rope, Jesus pursued a college education; he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from UTPB and successfully defended his thesis and earned a master’s in environmental chemistry from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. During this time, he met his beloved wife, Olga Chavez, and were married on June 12, 2002. He loved his wife and always encouraged her to live life and live life outside the box. Jesus and Olga were blessed with their first son, Justin in October of 2002. This was when Jesus’ biggest adventure began. Not only did he love being a husband, but he also loved being a father even more. Jesus taught Justin how to ride horses, show goats, drive tractors, play football and his biggest joy was shooting sports. In April of 2009, Jesus, Olga and Justin were blessed with the baby of the family, Jacob “El Tikkie”. With his family complete, a new season of life began. Jesus taught Jacob about animals, show rabbits and hauled him and Justin to every single sporting clay event. He was an active member in the sporting clays arena and in 4H Shooting Sports. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and children all over the world for sporting clay tournaments and 4H events all over the state of Texas. He rarely vacationed without his family or his shotgun. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with future generation competitors. Shooting sports was something he lived for and was his absolute most favorite hobby to do with his family. He truly loved his sporting clays family. He also loved horse races and made the trip to the 150th Kentucky Derby with his son. He loved Star Wars, good music, war history, traveling, skiing, a good margarita, dancing with his wife, participating in sporting clays tournaments with his children, trying new things, Dallas Cowboys, and his Texas Longhorns. He also loved painting and his ceramic classes; most importantly he loved his family and friends.
Jesus is survived by his wife of 21 years, Olga Chavez, his son Justin Ariel and his baby Jacob Alonzo “El Tikkie”. He is also survived by his father Jesus Alonzo Chavez Sr. (Kelly) and his mother Delma Holguin Chavez (Luis), his brother Jerome Andres Chavez, his Granny Margarita Chavez, all his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephew, family and friends.
Jesus is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Raul G. Chavez, maternal grandfather Luciano B. Holguin and his maternal grandmother Eliza P. Holguin.
