Jessie May Johnston, 85, of Sand Springs, died on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Byron Brown, pastor of the 1st Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM.She was born on January 21, 1923, in Breckenridge, Texas and married Owen Johnston on October 6, 1939 in Stanton, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1978.Jessie had been in the community since 1943. She owned and operated Lakeway Grocery for a number of years and later worked at the Big Spring State Hospital. She was a member of East 4th Baptist Church.Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Larkin Martin, and Linda and Tex Irvin all of Sand Springs; four grandsons, Brad Richardson and wife, Taneal of Sand Springs, Craig Richardson of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Robby Rupard and wife, Molly of Big Spring, and Ricky Rupard of Aztec, New Mexico; six great grandsons, Owen Richardson of Sand Springs, Gary Brito of Big Spring, Travis, Austin, and Logan Rupard of Aztec, New Mexico, and Michael Wagner of Big Spring; two great granddaughters, Hannah Richardson of Sand Springs and Lindsay Wagner of Sweetwater; one great great granddaughter, Jalind Wagner of Sweetwater; and one brother, Lesslie Sherrod of Big Spring. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess Randal Sherrod and Evie Sherrod Winn, two sons-in-law, Charles Rupard and Gary Richardson, one grandson, Brandon Todd Rupard, four brothers and two sisters.Pallbearers will be Brad Richardson, Craig Richardson, Ricky Rupard, Robby Rupard, Larkin Martin, and Bubba Martin.
