Jerry Morgan, Major in the United States Army in World War II, recipient of the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action near Valbonne, France in 1944, toy maker, golfer extraordinaire until his nineties, humanitarian, and a man with an incredibly kind heart, completed his earthly journey at 3 o’clock on the afternoon of February 24, 2016. He was a man of modesty and humility, never striving to be in the limelight or receive the praise of others. Instead, he quietly brought kindness, a generosity of spirit, and an innate understanding of the human condition to every person he met; never criticizing, never judging, never condemning. His wit was charming, his endurance, amazing; and his enjoyment of children, when he gave them his little handmade toy cars, was among his most treasured moments. In fairness, it must be known that he also had serious faults for which there was no remedy: he had an unwavering affection for the University of Oklahoma, and he spoiled his dogs to a fault.Jerry loved to know things, and the amount of time he studied and read and talked to folks only increased his remarkable memory . For every year he lived until the afternoon he died, he could clearly recall events, places and people, and his interest in the Permian Basin and in our beautiful United States made him one of the most well-informed of its citizens and patriots. There is an African proverb that says when an old man dies, a library burns to the ground. Surely that was the case with Jerry Morgan. May he forever rest in peace and in the arms of his merciful Savior, Jesus, for whom he had the greatest love of all.He is survived by his daughter, Karen Brenner Mason, his grandchildren, Jane Swartz and her husband, Andrew; Julia Barrett and her husband, Bobby; John Brenner and his wife, Traci; Emily Klemme and her husband, Bob; and eleven great grandchildren. Before he died, his grandson John informed him that he had lived for 35,332 days since his birth in Cordell, Oklahoma on June 1, 1919. No doubt he appreciated the use of that valuable information.Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at All Saints Anglican Church at the Genesis Center, 2800 W.
