Jerry Currie, 76, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 26, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Wiseman, retired Methodist minister of Lubbock, officiating, and Rev. Matt Miles, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, assisting. Interment will follow at Garden City Cemetery, Garden City. He was born on January 12, 1931, in Big Spring, Texas and married Delores Howard Bash on February 19, 1983, in Big Spring.Jerry was the son of William James "Bill" and Maud Currie, a pioneer ranching family. He grew up in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School as valedictorian. He was involved in scouting as a young man and earned his Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He attended Texas Tech and the University of Texas and served in the United States Navy. He ranched all of his life in Glasscock and Oldham counties and enjoyed race horses. He had served on the Big Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees from 1966 to 1970. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association.Survivors include his wife, Delores Currie of Big Spring; a son, Bill Currie of Big Spring; a step-daughter, Nicole Bash of Dallas; a granddaughter, Natalie Nichols Stroup and husband, Kayne of San Antonio; a grandson, Will Currie of Big Spring; a sister, Barbara Currie Ratliff of Garden City and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Marie Currie; one daughter, Diana Currie Nichols and one son, Jerry Jon Currie.Pallbearers will be Jose Lopez, Chad Mason, Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Broadrick, Marvin Self and Dean Forrest. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. B.
