Jerry "Spot" Cockrell, 75, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, November 12, 2006, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Joel Miller, pastor of Birdwell Lane United Methodist Church, officiating. He will be assisted by Kirby Brown abd Ronnie Gilbreath.He was born on November 15, 1930, in Howard County, Texas and married Daury Garrison on June 4, 1954 in Big Spring, Texas.Spot was a lifelong resident of Big Spring. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1951 to 1953. He worked for Cosden Refinery for 38 years. He loved to play dominoes and golf and especially loved his family. He was a Christian.Survivors include his wife, Daury Cockrell of Big Spring; one son, Donnie Cockrell and wife, Monika of Alvord; daughter, Jana Carter-Hector and husband, Steve and daughter, Debbie Ellis all of Big Spring; one sister, Gwen Rogers of Big Spring; two granddaughters, Kambrah Newman of Missouri City and Megan McVeigh of Bedford; one grandson, Jamie Moore of Castlerock, Colorado; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Allie Cockrell; two brothers, Billy Wayne and Bobby Lynn; two granddaughters, Christy Carter and Nikki Lynn Ellis; and a beloved son-in-law, Fuzzy Carter.The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society, Relay for Life % Diane Woods, 3200 Greenbriar, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
