Jerry Capers

Jerry Capers, 73, of Fort Stockton, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023. Services will be at 3:00pm Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Jerry was born on February 8, 1950 in Monahans, Texas to S.T. and Reta Capers. Jerry worked for the sulfur plant in Pecos, Texas for 20 years until he retired and moved to Fort Stockton.  In 1999 he went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a maintenance supervisor for the Lynaugh unit. Jerry enjoyed wood working for most of his life.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 27 years, Martha Capers (Fort Stockton, Texas), step-sons Kevin Weatherby and his wife Kammie (Kiowa, Colorado), and Jason Weatherby and his wife Marcie (Greenwood, Texas); brother Freddie Capers and his wife Terry (Fort Stockton, Texas); and sister-in-law Shirley Capers (Alamogordo, NM). Jerry had 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, S.T. and Reta Capers, brother Roy Capers, his daughter Karen Capers-Clinton, and infant son, Matt.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards all of the friends, families, and associates that called to check on him and all of those that lifted him and his family in their prayers.
