Jeffrey “Jeff” Carl Hayes, 60, of Midland, TX was called home on Thursday, July 13, 2023. To honor his memory, a celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, July 28, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home Chapel.
Jeff was born on July 3, 1963 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Jay (“J.D.”) and Carol Hayes.
Jeff was a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a brother-in-law, an uncle, a grandfather (“Two-pop”), a friend to many, a successful business owner, a hunter, a handy-man, a jack-of-all-trades, a God-fearing man, and a proud American. He was a well-known master electrician around West Texas, where he established and ran his own successful business, J.H. Controls in Midland, Tx. He was passionate about his work and his work ethic, expertise, precision, customer service, and dedication to each job spoke for itself, so much so, he became known through word of mouth by his customers and clients and often was recommended and referred to in the Midland, Odessa, and surrounding areas as the “one to call” for any electrical projects, big or small. There was never a task or a job that was too big or too challenging for him. If he didn’t know how to make, cook, fix, or build something, he would always challenge himself and seek out how to do it himself, and was often successful at overcoming those challenging tasks/projects. He was a loyal, giving, caring person to all who knew him, but never shied away from telling you like it is. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back and would drop everything to help those he loved and cared for. He was a selfless, dedicated caregiver to his late mother, Carol and his in-laws, Roger and Jessie, always checking in on them and making sure they were cared for. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but what he enjoyed most was hunting deer, elk, quail, dove, and really anything he could shoot, cook, and eat himself. Any chance he could get to be in a deer stand and hunt deer and elk, he would take it. He was a great cook and was known for his deer and elk jerky and banana bread. He always enjoyed hosting family and friends at his house for simple weekend get-togethers, BBQs, superbowl Sundays, and the holidays. With his birthday being the day before 4th of July, he would always host the best and most memorable 4th of July parties at his house, filled with good food, good friends, family, and unlimited fireworks. Later in life, he came to enjoy golfing and would golf with a group of his lifelong friends any chance he could.
Jeff will always be remembered as a devoted father, son, uncle, “two-pop”, husband, friend, and electrician and for all his little “sayings”. Although his presence is and will always be missed by so many, there is peace and comfort in knowing he will continue to live on in the memories, conversations, hearts, and lives of those so fortunate to know him, love him, and be loved by him. As he and his late mother Carol would say, “And so it is.”
Left to cherish his memory are his son Jacob Hayes; his wife Rebecca Hayes, her parents, Roger and Jessie, and her children, Jeremy, Joshua, Jessica and husband, along with numerous grandchildren; sister, Patricia “Trish” Black, her husband Nathaniel; Uncles, Carl Wayne Tawney and family, and Van Folger and family, along with numerous cousins; nieces Desiree Hayes and Candace Reese, her husband and their three children; nephews Caleb Black, his wife and their daughter, and Caden Black; sister-in-law Pam Hayes Yarbrough and husband Larry and their blended family; extended family Sam Sliger, his children Tim, Lori, Kenny and their families, Millie Rogers (mother of Jacob Hayes) and her husband Terry, son Stephen McMariyon and his wife and their two children; along with numerous lifelong friends acquired throughout his lifetime.
