Jeffery Carr Gotcher passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at the age of 58. He was a loving husband, proud father of three children and “Poppy” to one. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at The Branch at Nalley-Pickle & Welch, 3800 N. Big Spring, Midland, Texas. Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church of Midland. A graveside service will be held at 5:00 pm Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Oplin Cemetery in Callahan County, Texas. Jeff was born to Jim and Tomasine Gotcher on December 9, 1957, in San Angelo and was raised in Midland, Texas. The family attended First Methodist Church where he was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship and Boy Scouts. He graduated from Midland High School in 1976 where he was a two-year letterman in varsity basketball. He continued to be active in many city and church league sports throughout his life. Jeff was a talented musician; he enjoyed playing guitar and singing, especially anything by John Denver or George Strait. He graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a Bachelor of Business Management. Jeff started his career in the oil industry working first as a roustabout then surveyor. He spent the last thirty years of his career as a landman, beginning with contract work, then joining Arco Permian, and culminating in his position as Regional Land Manager for Cimarex Energy Co. He was a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen and Permian Basin Landmen’s Association. He enjoyed his time as a volunteer for the United Way of Midland, and the many occasions that he was encouraged to volunteer with his wife for Community and Senior Services, Christmas in Action, Trinity School among others. He called these loving acts of service being “spoused.”Jeff was also a talented author publishing “Shadow Warrior,” for which he was honored by the Western Writer’s of America, Inc. He was an avid Texas Longhorn football fan but he tolerated his children’s choices of the Texas Aggies and Baylor Bears. He had a passion for golf and could regularly be found on Saturday mornings with his golf group (a bunch of “old farts and schmucks” – you know who you are) at Greentree Country Club. He fiercely loved his family, and took tremendous pride in his children. He richly enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams throughout the years from both the court and the stands. Most importantly, he loved the Lord. He was thankful to his mother and father for the legacy of faith they instilled in him. His greatest desire was that his family would continue that legacy. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-six years, Carla (Curtner) Gotcher; his son, Andrew Gotcher; his daughters, Emma Gotcher and Caroline (Gotcher) Hoban and her husband, Chad Hoban; his favorite grandson, Preston Hoban; his beloved mother, Tomasine Gotcher; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Sue Curtner; his brother and his wife, Jay & Deborah Gotcher; his sister and her husband, Mona and Denny Snelson; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Teri Crockett; his nieces, nephews and their spouses, Meagan and Clay Gardner, Morgan and Sydney Gotcher, Hannah and David Longoria, J.
