Jeanette Hewett Floyd, 85, of Sterling City, Texas, formerly of Big Spring passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 26, 2020 Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Due to the current pandemic, masks and social distancing will be required.
Delivered by her father at home in Knott, Texas on December 7, 1935 to C.V. and Roxie Hewett.
Jeanette was raising six children from a previous marriage when she met and married her partner for life Marion “Butch” Floyd on August 18, 1972. Together they had a daughter.
She spent her childhood in Knott and Big Spring and attended school in Big Spring. She was a housewife and mother to seven children. She loved her family unconditionally. Jeanette worked at Furr’s cafeteria and Medical Arts Hospital in Big Spring before making their home in Sterling City. Jeanette had a competitive nature when it came to bingo, playing cards or going to the casino. She was sure to watch the Price is Right everyday and knew exactly how to play each game. Jeanette loved family get togethers and joking around. She loved to travel, especially on family vacations. She could stay up all night with a good book and loved long telephone conversations with family and her longtime friend Betty Crocker.
Jeanette was a Christian and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. In her later years, she enjoyed church services from her television.
She is survived by her husband Marion “Butch” Floyd, four daughters, Rhonda Hayes, Brenda Canady and husband Clifton of Big Spring, Terra Lawrence and husband James of Tyler and Marla Arizola and husband Filie of Sterling City, two sons, Rance McKee and wife Cindy of Belton and Preston McKee and wife Gloria of Hobbs, New Mexico, two brothers, Don Hewett and wife Donna of Valley View and Vernon Hewett of Grapevine. A sister-in-law Teena Lansing of San Antonio, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest daughter, Verlinda Phillips, a grandson, Bryan McKee, a sister, Betty Mathis, a brother, Jerry Hewett and a son in-law, Robert Hayes.
In leiu of flowers the family suggests memorials to, the Make a Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Cook’s Children’s Hospital or MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
