Janiece “Jan” Owen, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 11, 2026. She was born on August 3, 1936, in Lubbock, Texas, to Charlie B. and Christine Harris.
Jan attended Lubbock High School and later Texas Tech University. On June 6, 1954, she married the love of her life, Gary Edwards Jackson Owen. Together, they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
In 1958, Jan and Gary moved to Midland, Texas, where they became active members of First Baptist Church. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she faithfully served her church for many years teaching high school girls and later young women. Jan served as the church’s Youth Secretary for many years, ministering to countless students and families. In her later years she was involved in the FBC Benevolence Ministry. She was known for her steadfast faith, quiet and gentle nature, welcoming heart, and genuine interest in others.
Jan also devoted her time to community volunteer organizations, always seeking ways to serve others. She transformed her hobby and love of stained glass into a business. Her beautiful stained-glass creations can be found in churches, businesses, and homes, serving as lasting reminders of her.
For more than 60 years, Vallecito, Colorado, held a special place in her heart. She loved watching the aspens, sitting beside the river with a good book, and sharing treasured memories there with family and friends. She cherished traveling with her family and the many groups of friends she gathered throughout her life. Jan loved games of all kinds and was an enthusiastic bridge player, participating in several bridge clubs over the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Kidwell and her husband, Jack; her son, Gary Charles “Chuck” Owen and his wife, Sally; her grandchildren, Kristen Bradshaw and her husband, Garrett; Kaylee Kent and her husband, Michael; Samantha Weiner; and Stanley Weiner; and her great-grandchildren, Cooper, Sutton, Emma, Barrett, and Elam.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie B. and Christine Harris; her beloved husband, Gary Owen; her grandchildren, Kensie and Clint Owen; and her sister, Betty Genelle Jones.
The family is grateful for the love and support shown by friends and church family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to Hospice of Midland and First Baptist Church Benevolence Ministry.
