She went to be with our Lord on February 5, 2022, at the age of 71. She is survived by two sisters: Debra Collen Meador and Murfi Jobeth Boadle both of Odessa, Texas and a brother Joe Robert Boadle III of Houston TX, two children, Robert Dean Brown of San Angelo TX and Christa Beth Brown of Odessa, Texas. one niece Courtney Colleen Meador of Allen, TX; two stepdaughters Shawna Mae Pope of Georgetown TX and Jamie Elizabeth Hayes of Rockwall TX; grandchildren Faith Dawn Becker, Daeton Rae LeMoine, Harper Eden May Pope, Ogden Mortimer Hayes and Violet Mae Hayes. She was preceded in death by her husband James Steward Pope and her parents as aforementioned.
At approximately the age of two, Janie’s father became employed at CRMWD and her family began a beautiful relationship with the people living in a small community known as Courtney which is in South Central Martin County. There she attended Courtney elementary school from grades one through eight. Later that year, after graduating from the 8th grade her family moved to Big Spring, TX. She and her siblings thought they were in the big city now. She attended Goliad Intermediate School then went to Big Spring high school and graduated in 1968. After graduating from BSHS she enrolled in secretarial science classes at Howard County junior college. She excelled in her skills being able to take dictation using shorthand and typing up to 130 words per minute.
May 2nd, 1974, she married Billy Mac Brown they were blessed with a son and daughter. In 1993, she married for a second time to James Stewart Pope; she was blessed with two more daughters whom she loved as her own. Janie had a gregarious personality. She loved people and had many friends she was the type of person who knew no strangers. She knew her worth, and she knew the worth of others and lived her life as she wanted. She was a child of God. She loved being a secretary. Just before passing away, she purchased an old electric typewriter because “nothing else would do” and started chronicling her childhood experiences growing up in her beloved Courtney. It was her goal to write a novel so others could read and feel the magic that the siblings felt as children. Unfortunately, due to failing health she was only able to write a few pages. Janie’s life will be cherished by those she left behind. Her smile and upbeat attitude even in the face of adversity will forever live in our hearts.
