Janell Burnett, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in Midland, Texas, on September 12, 2024, at the age of 89.
Born in Tishomingo, Mississippi, on December 16, 1934, Janell was a pillar of strength and support for her family. She was their biggest cheerleader during triumphs and their steadfast protector during challenging times.
Janell was an exceptional athlete who pursued her passion for basketball while on a college scholarship. As an adult, she lived an active life. She enjoyed fishing, dove hunting, playing softball, snow skiing with her husband and children, and golfing with great enthusiasm and competitiveness. She never turned down a great game of 21 and Horse with her kids and the kids in the neighborhood.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Janell embodied grace and strength as a role model. She was known for her unwavering optimism, kindness, and generosity. Active in her church and a dedicated volunteer at the Disciples Food Pantry, even in her golden years, Janell demonstrated her commitment to self-sacrifice and service to others.
Janell is survived by her children, David Burnett and his wife Janna, Johnny Burnett and his wife Teresa, and Lesa Cain and her husband Sean. She was further blessed by three grandchildren, Kandace Bolin and her husband Matthew, Johnny Burnett and his wife Lindley, and Shelton Burnett. Additionally, three great-grandchildren, Thomas Bolin, Rian Burnett, and Katherine Burnett enriched her life.
Janell’s memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Her life was a testament to love, strength, and the enduring impact she had on those around her.
As Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
