Jane Womack, 85, of Midland passed away on September 5, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on November 19, 1927 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Clare and Esther Mills. Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00 am at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with Rev. Larry Long officiating.Jane grew up in Aransas Pass, Texas. She graduated valedictorian from Aransas Pass High School in 1945. After high school she attended college at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX where she received a degree of Bachelor of Science in 1949. She began her career at Burbank Vocational High School that same year as a physical education teacher.In 1951, Jane married Charles “Chick” Womack and the couple moved to Ozona, Texas where they were both employed as teachers/coaches. Upon the birth of their first child, Jane became an elementary school teacher in Ozona where she taught for 30 years. Jane enjoyed teaching, but her true enjoyment was raising her children and supporting their activities. Upon Chick’s retirement, the Womacks moved to Fort Stockton, where Jane completed her career as an elementary school teacher of 32 years.In Ozona, Jane was a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild of the Board of Missions of the Methodist Church, a Girl Scout leader of the El Camino Girl Scout Council, member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a lifetime member of the Texas State Teachers Association.After moving to Fort Stockton, Jane became a member/officer of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served on the Chamber of Commerce, the altar guild of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Stockton, and was an active member of the Norman Read Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.Jane later moved to Midland to be closer to her children and was an active member of Fellowship Community Church.The couple was happily married for 53 years.Survivors include her son, Chuck Womack and wife Angela of Corpus Christi, daughter, Jennifer Galloway and husband Tom of Midland, daughter Nancy Surber of Midland, daughter Molly Wright and husband Tim of Midland, grandchildren Brian Fairchild and wife Courtney of Midland, Meghann Poe and husband Chris of Midland, Jay Womack and wife Jesse of Refugio, Mason Surber and wife Mallory of San Angelo, Kallie Womack of Corpus Christi; great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brinklee Fairchild of Midland and Marlee Surber of San Angelo.She was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Chick” Womack, a brother, Clare Mills, a sister Mary Beth Coleman and son-in-laws Rex Surber and Ruben Abila.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to: Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas TX 75217.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
