Our beloved, Wayne Culvahouse, 90, of Midland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 21, 2023, surrounded by family at Midland Memorial Hospital. A visitation will begin at 6:00 on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. Graveside services will be 10:00 Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Terrace Cemetery in Post, Texas.
Wayne was born on July 24, 1932 in Pioneer, Texas to James Sewell and Eula Mae (Turner) Culvahouse. He grew up in a large household of 8 children being taught by his faithful parents to love the Lord. Graduating from Kermit High School in 1951, Wayne received a football scholarship to Baylor University where he earned his degree in 1955, playing football all four years. He went to work for Mobil Oil in Snyder, Texas. While in Snyder, he met and married
El Wanda Pearl Davies of Post, Texas on July 20, 1957. They celebrated their 66 year anniversary with family while in the hospital. We would like to thank Dr. Orlando Garner of the ICU and both the Patient Relations and Food and Nutrition Departments of Midland Memorial Hospital for the beautiful anniversary cake and candy roses.
Wayne retired with Mobil Oil after 35 years. He and El Wanda enjoyed traveling in their Airstream and spending the fall in Waco attending Baylor football games. They traveled to Europe and Indonesia; but, their trip to Israel was a highlight of their years together. At 87, Wayne traded in the Airstream and bought a cabin in Ruidoso, NM. He and El Wanda have enjoyed many hours on the cabin’s deck overlooking the national forest. Wayne was a generous giver to many Christian organizations sharing the Gospel around the world. He has left a Godly legacy to his family; and, he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bill Culvahouse and Eugene Culvahouse; his sisters, Dorothy Phillips, Lucille Granbery, Florence Norwood, and Mary Ruth Lawson. He is survived by his wife, El Wanda of Midland, Texas, his sister, Beverly St. Germaine of Alamogordo, New Mexico and sister-in-law, Nancy Culvahouse of Odessa, Texas.
