James Walter Adams, Jr., 87, of Midland, surrounded by his family, went to be with the Lord and Saviour on March 9, 2016.Jim, as he was known, was born on June 30, 1928 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He was the son of James Walter Adams, Sr. and Lula Marti Adams. The Adams moved to Highland Park, Dallas when Jim was three years old. Jim loved Highland Park Schools and remained in close contact with the school and friends he made during his early years. Jim spent his first two years at North Texas State University and discovered a fondness for the great outdoors. He loved the opportunity for fossil hunting, rocks and more rocks and lecturing on geology. Jim also had a great love for steam locomotives and as a boy in Dallas, he would visit the depot in Dallas, TX. The University of Texas was his joy and where he got his degree in geology. After a short leave from employment with Humble (now Exxon), Jim joined the U.S. Air Force and served as 1st lieutenant. Jim returned to Humble where he worked until retiring in 1994. Jim’s favorite activity was camping with family, snow skiing, climbing mountains and working with Boy Scouts, where Jim earned the Silver Beaver for leadership. Jim was devout in his faith and a loving man of God. He served as the 7th grade Sunday school teacher and a Royal Ambassador leader for many years. Jim was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Dallas and later in Midland. Jim was a life member of American Association of Petroleum Geologist Society. Love of geology and family took Jim and Terry to Belgium and Switzerland in search for relatives.Jim leaves to cherish his loving wife, Terry, and loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; son, Robert Harrington; son, David and wife Barbara Harrington, Charles and wife Lou-Ann Adams; daughter, Leslie Adams Crawley and husband Jerry Crawley; daughter, Patricia Adams Wooldridge and husband Mark Wooldridge; three granddaughters, Kristin Villareal and husband Robert Villareal, Victoria and Petra Wooldridge; five grandsons, Chris Harrington and wife Hollie, Chad Adams, Ryan Adams, Wynn Wooldridge and Nathan Wooldridge; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Hope Villareal and Lilly and Gage Harrington; nephews, Joe Henderson of Indianapolis, IN, Scott and Christina Henderson , Nicole and Erika Henderson of Highland Village, TX.Preceding Jim in death are sisters, Nadine Adams Frandsen and husband Axel Frandsen, Bonnie Jean Adams Henderson and husband Gus Henderson and Evan Roberta Adams Kerr and husband Henry Kerr.There will be a private graveside service. Memorial services will held 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at First Baptist Church Chapel.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Manor Park Village Midland, TX, in memory of Jim W.
