James T. (Jake) Jones of Midland died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Texas State Veteran's Home in Big Spring after a brief illness. He was born February 15, 1917 in Stamford, Texas to Floyd E. and Ottie D. Jones. He graduated from Stamford High School. Jake moved to Kermit, Texas where he met and married Marguerite Johnson on June 8, 1941. In 1942, he proudly joined the Army Air Corps where he served as a bombardier on B-24 Liberators in the European Theatre in WWII. After completing 50 missions, he returned to Midland to serve as a bombardier instructor at the Midland Army Air Field. Upon completion of service, Jake and Marguerite stayed in West Texas working in Kermit where they owned the Borden's milk distributorship. Then in 1961, he moved his family to Lubbock, Texas where he owned a vending machine business for 3 years. He moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1964 where he lived and worked until moving back to Midland in 2004. He is survived by son, Michael Jones and wife Lauvaughn of Aurora, Colorado; son Danny Jones and wife Jodi of Aurora, Colorado; daughter Jane Pattillo and husband Jim of Midland, Texas; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters and his beloved wife of 56 years, Marguerite.Interment will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Colorado.
