James (Jim) Long, 82, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharon Wiese, pastor, officiating.He was born on May 5, 1926 in the Knott Community, northwest of Big Spring, to Jimmie and Ben Long. He married Bonnie M. Thompson on December 11, 1953 in Big Spring.Jim worked as a cowboy for Lester Foster in Sterling City and then for J. C. Reed Cattle Company in Martin County. He then started working on the pipeline gang for Cosden Pipeline, now known as American Petro Fina Pipeline, in October of 1956. He worked as an electrician and pipeline foreman before becoming superintendent, retiring in 1989.He was a member of Local 826 International Union of Operating Engineers, the 25 year club at Cosden, and the Big Spring Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church.Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Long of Big Spring; a brother & sister-in-law, Robert and Alma Long of Big Spring; a sister & brother-in-law, Joy and B. W. Henderson of Whitney; five nieces & nephews, Lynn Rollins and wife, Jann, Janet Marie King and husband, Ron, Russell Long and wife, JoAnn, Russeline Long and husband, John Wauheckon and Linda Driver; and special friends, Keith and Becky Crane of Big Spring.
